Sankashti Chaturthi vrat is celebrated on fourth day after the full moon in each lunar month.This Vrat is dedicated to God Ganesha. Sankashti Chaturthi is also called as Sakashti, Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi and Sankata Hara Chaturthi. This month Sankashti Chaturthi is on Friday, 26th February 2016.
Devotees observe fast on Sankashti Chaturthi day. They break their fast after chandrodaya (Moon rise). They perform special pujas and rituals on this day. On Sankashti Chaturthi, Ganesha temples are closed for an hour before moonrise. Devotees read the Sankata Hara Chaturthi Vrat Katha after the puja.
