Ugadi is celebrated on Chaitra Sukla Paksha Padyami. Ugadi is observed on the first day of the waxing moon phase of the Chaitram month of the Telugu calendar. Ugadi will be celebrated on Wednesday, 25th March, 2020.
The Telugu new year is known as Ugadi. The meaning for Ugadi is the start of a yuga(Yuga + Adi) or year. Ugadi is also famous for one more thing Ugadi Pacchadi. Ugadi Pacchadi is prepared in each and every household of Andhra Pradesh. Ugadi Pacchadi is a mixture of six different tastes which represent Six different feelings is prepared using the following
1. Jaggery which is sweet and so Happiness
2. Tamarind which is sour and so Disgust
3. Neem flower which is bitter and so Sadness
4. Green Chilli which is hot and so Anger
5. Salt which is salty and so Fear
6. Unripe Mango which is tang and so Surprise.
After eating the Ugadi Pacchadi, Panchangam is read to understand what is there in the coming year for every one. It is on Ugadi that the Panchangam has to be opened and used. Children would seek blessing from the elders on Ugadi. Relatives would wish each other with “Nuthana Samvatsara Subhakankshalu” or “Ugadi Subhakankshalu”. Bobbatlu or polelu is a common sweet prepared and distributed.Ugadi is also celebrated in different parts of the country with different names like Gudi Padwa, Cheti Chand, Thappan etc.
