Kalashtami is also known as Kala ashtami and Kaal Bhairavashtami. This vrat is dedicated to fierce form of God Shiva. Kaal means ‘Time’ and ‘Bhairava’ is the manifestation of Lord Shiva. Kalashtami is observed on the eighth day after full moon day of every Hindu lunar month. This month Kala Ashtami is on Saturday, 5th January 2013.
On this Kal Bhairav Ashtami day Shiva devotees take morning bath and perform special pujas to the Kala Bhirava. People observe fast on this day. This is also good for make offerings to the dead ancestors.
