This is the Ekadashi that falls in the Krishna Paksham of Jyesta Masam(month for the south Indian ) and on Ashada month of North Indian calendar. This is the first Ekadashi that comes after the Nirjal Ekadashi. The Yogini Ekadashi Vrat is observed to overcome diseases and other human body problems.
The Vrat story is as below:
Once there was a gandharva by the name of Hemamali, whose duty was to bring flowers to the King Kubera. Kubera used to worship using those flowers. Kubera found that Hemamali was neglecting his duties and found out that, it was because of wife of Hemamali that he was getting his duties. He cursed Hemamali to be infected with leprosy and stay away from his wife and to spend his time in earth.
Once Hemamali met Sage Markandeya, narrated his story and asked for a remedy. Markandeya suggested Hemamali to perform the Yogini Ekadashi Vrat to get rid of his Leprosy and miseries.
Hemamali observed the vrat as suggested and got rid of leprosy and from that day on wards this Yogini Ekadashi vrat is observed so as to get rid of bodily ailments
