In north India effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Indrajeet are burnt as it is believed that Lord Rama had killed Ravana on this day. It is believed that Pandavas have finished the Agyat Vas on Vijayadasami. Pandavas are believed to have hidden their weapons on a Sami tree or Jammi Chettu. Hence people visit Sami tree or Jammi chettu on Vijayadasami.
Ayudha Puja is performed in few states on Vijayadasami, where all the instruments which are used in manufacturing or designing are cleaned and worshipped. Even vehicles are cleaned and worshipped on Vijayadasami.
Vijayadasami is believed to be a day that is good for starting any business or work. It is believed that success is guaranteed if it is started on Vijayadasmi. The other two days of the year which are good to start new work or business are Akshaya Tritiya and Ugadi or Gudi Padwa.
