Skanda Panchami is observed on the fifth day of Ashada masa. This is on 24th June 2012
This is related to Lord Skanda who is also known as Murugan,Kartikeyan and Subramanyan.
Skanda is the senapati(the one who leads the army of Gods) of Gods. He is the second son of Lord Shiva and Godess Parvati.
He is the younger brother of Lord Ganesha.
The day after SKANDA PANCHAMI is known as kumara shashti, which is thought of to be the day when Subramanya was born.
The the vehicle of Subramanya is Peacock. He is worshipped in the form of Snake also.

Mopidevi in krishna district of Andhra Pradesh
Kukke Subramanya swamy, near Mangalore,karnataka
Thiruttani near Chennai.
