Pongal festival is celebrated in a grand manner in Tamilnadu. It is a four day long festival observed in the tamil month of Thai. This festival is also known as Thai pongal. Four days of this festival is known as Bhogi Pongal, Surya Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. Kaanum Pongal is also known as Thiruvalluvar day.
Pongal is a biggest harvest festival celebrated by the tamilians. This festival is dedicated Sun God. This is the thanks giving occasion to the nature for the good harvest season. During the pongal time makara Sankranti is celebrated in other parts of India. Sankramana Snan is also performed on Surya Pongal day.
