Nakkataiya Chetganj | Nakkataiya Chaturthi

Varanasi is the Sacred city for Hindus.  Ramlila festival is celebrated in great manner in Varanasi. Nakkataiya (Naak Katiya or Cutting the Nose) is an important part of the Ram lila. Bharat Milap Leela of Nati Emli is also famous during ramlila. During this Ramlila festival, Jhankis and pageants depicting scenes from the life of Lord Ram are taken out.

Nakkataiya is celebrated to Commemorate the event that, Laxman (Younger brother of God Rama), cut off the nose of the demon, Shurpanakha. Chetganj Nakkataiya is celebrated on the Krishna paksha Chaturthi (Fourth Day of Dark Fortnight) of the Hindu lunar month of Kartika. In 2012, Nakkataiya festival is on Friday, 2nd November.
