As per Hindu Lunar calender, Eleventh day of the each fortnight is observed as Ekadasi. All ekadasi days are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and people observe fast on this day. Shukla Paksha ekadasi that is observed in the Tamil (solar) month of Margazhi is observed Mukkoti ekadasi. it is believed that mukkoti devata’s visit Vaikutam for lord vishnu Darshan.
Mukkoti Ekadasi is also known as Vaikunta Ekadasi and Swarga Vathil Ekadasi. Usually it falls during the December – January i,e Margasira / paush month in the lunar calenders. This year Mukkoti ekadasi is on 11th January 2014 (Saturday). Vaishnava sect people celebrate this festival in a grand manner.
