Seventh day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Margashira is celebrated as Mitra Saptami. This festival is dedicated to Sun. Sun is also considered as God by Hindus. The other name of the Sun God is Mitra.

Devotees Observe Vrat on Mitra Saptami day. Special Pujas and rituals performed in the Surya Bhagavan temples. People observe fast for the whole day. They broke fast in the evening after performing the surya puja. They take only fruits, honey and milk in the dinner. On the next morning they take the meal only after feeding the brahmin / poor person.

Devotees believe that Observing Mitra Saptami Vrat provide them good health and wealth. Bhanu Saptami and Ratha Saptami are the other festivals dedicated to the Surya Bhagvan (Sun God).
