Kumara Shasti falls on the sixth day of the waxing moon on every month. Lord Subramanian was born on Karthika Shasti and so it is believed that observing the vrat of kumara shasti on all the shastis would help them over come their miseries and fulfill their desires. Hence normally on all shastis of every month of waxing moon (sukla paksha) kumara shasti vratam is obsereved.

This day is considered to be auspicious for the devotees of Lord Murugan or Subramanian or Karthikeya or Skanda or Sarvana.

In 2012 Kumara Shasti  is coming on June 25 2012.

Devotees visit the Subramanian temple and offer prayers to Lord.

Devotees observe a day long fast and break the fast after visiting the temple. It is believed that keeping fast  on this day and visiting the temple would relieve them of their sorrows and miseries.

Devotees also recite stotras of Subramanian on this day.

Skanda kavacham is specially read.
