Sawan Shivratri vrat vidhan is similar to the Maha Shivratri / masik Shivratri Vrat. Prepartion for this vrat starts on trayodashi day i.e a day before the Sawan Shivratri day. Devotees who observe this vrat eat only meal on traodashi day. On the festive day devotee wake up early in the morning complete bathing rituals and take sankalp for the fast.
In the evening devotees take second bath and visit lord Shiva temples. Perofrom Shiva puja. Like all other pujas Maha Shivaratri puja is also starts with Pasupu ganapathi puja. After performing pasupu Ganapathi puja perform detailed Shodashopachara puja. Devotees break their fast (paaran) after sunrise of the next day.
