Haridasu

Haridasu is considered as a symbol of our culture and tradition. Haridasu looks unique with his dress, bowl and musical instrument. They roam around villages singing devotional songs during the sankranti time. Hearing it is considered auspicious by the villagers.

Haridasus take up deeksha for one month during the Dhanurmaasam. This is a tradition is known as Bhakti Sampradayam and it ends on Bhogi. Few haridasus take up deeksha through out the year. They give Harikadha performances.

Haridasu wears Dhoti, looks like Naradamuni as in Purans. He is with a big bowl on his head called akshaya patra and  his musical instrument is known as Tambura. He wokes up early by 4 AM and offer prayers to the god, out in streets singing the Sundara Kanda and Bhagavatam. He goes from house to house and ask Biksha (donation). He says Krishnarpanam when he receives biksha from the people.
