Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations ends with Ganesha Visarjan. Clay idol of Ganesha is worshiped for a few days from Ganesh Chaturthi. After that, the statue is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with dancing, singing, and fanfare to be immersed in a river/Sea/Lake. This process is called Ganesh Visarjan.
Usually, Ganesh Visarjan is observed on Anant Chaturdashi day. There are no hard rule on when Ganesh Visarjan should be done. It’s up to personal preference. However, the Visarjans do follow a schedule and are only performed on selected days. Here are the dates for Ganesh Visarjan in 2012.

Vinayaka Visarjan (Three day date) September 21, 2012.
Ganesh Visarjan (Five day date) September 23, 2012.
Ganesh Nimajjan (Seven day date) September 25, 2012.
Ananta Chaturdashi is the last day of Ganesh Visarjan and the date is September 29, 2012.
