Gamha Purnima is celebrated on the Purnima or full moon day of the Shravan month in Orissa. Gamha means Cow and  as Cows are worshipped it is called as Gamha Purnima.

It is a festival in which people would worship Cow with lot of devotioin. On this day Cows are decorated beautifully and worshipped. Cow has a lot of significance in the Hindu religion and is treated as a Goddess. It is believed that one who worships cow would be prosperous and live a happy life.

They would prepare a lot variety of sweets and distribute among family and friends.

A Cow that  is also known as Kamadhenuvu, one that has the power to grant anything that one wishes for.

On this day Gamha Dian is conducted. Gamha Dian is a game where in gifts are tied to a rope and hung at some height. People run and jump on a makeshift ramp and try to get the gifts. It is fun and lot of people would participate in this.

Shravan Purnima is also celebrated as Balarama Jayanthi,Jandhyala Purnima,Narali Purnima,Jhulan Purnima,Kajari Purnima.
