Bhoumi Ekadashi Vrat is observed on eleventh day of waxing moon period in the of Magha masam. This Vrat is dedicated to God Vishnu. Devotee of Lord Vishnu observe fast on this day and some devotees keep vigil during night. This year, Bhoumi Ekadashi is on Thursday, 21st February 2013.
Bhoumi Ekadashi is also observed as Jaya ekadashi and Bhishma Ekadasi. This Ekadashi is celebrated with a lot of gusto and fanfare at Puri Jagannath temple. Thousands of devotees visit Lord Jagannath temples and offer special pujas and food offerings to the God. Reading Vishnu Sahasranama is also considered auspicious on Bhoumi Ekadashi. Punya Snan at Puri and Til daan (donating sesame seeds) to Brahmins / poor are the other rituals performed on this day.
