Vamana Ekadasi
The Ekadashi that falls on the eleventh day of waxing phase of the moon in the month of Bhadrapada is known as Vamana Ekadashi. Bhadrapada Sukla Ekadashi is Vamana Ekadashi.
It is believed that it was on the day of Vamana Ekadashi that the great demon king Bali was pushed to the Patala Loka by Lord Vamana an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Vamana Ekadashi falls in the holy Chaturmas Vrat period and hence is given higher improtance. It is also believed that Lord Vishnu who sleeps on Sayana Ekadashi would turn on Vamana Ekadashi.
All the devotees of Lord Vishnu would observe the Ekadashi Vrat on Vamana Ekadashi. They observe the Vamana Ekadashi vrat by fasting all day and staying awake in the night reciting the name of Lord Vishnu. Devotees would eat only on the Dwadashi day.
Reading of the Vamana Ekadashi Vrat katha is also done on Vamana Ekadashi.
Vamana Ekadashi is also known as Jayanti Ekadashi, Parsva or Parsava Ekadashi , Parvartini or Parivartana Ekadashi.
