Sixth Day of Pitrupaksha, Sixth Day of Mahalaya Paksha, Sixth Day of Shraddha, Sashti Shraddha, Shashti Shraddha
Day six of the waning phase of the moon of the Bhadrapada Month of the lunar calendar or Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Sashti is observed as Sashti Shraddha. According to North Indian Purnimant Calenders, Sashti Shraddha falls in the month of Ashwin.
Sashti Shraddha is the sixth day of the fifteen day long period of the sacred Mahalya Paksha, where Shraddha for ancestors is done during the Mahalya Paksha. Shraddha for the ancestors who have died on the Shashti thithi irrespective of the Thithi is performed on Sashti Shraddha. Tarpan and Pinda Daan are done as per the process of Shraddha. The Pinda are immersed in a river if there is one or given as food to cow.
Proper care must be taken while performing Shraddha so that the lunch time would fall during the Aparahna time of the day. Performing of Shraddha during Mahalaya Paksha would please the ancestors who in return would bless us with wealth and prosperity.
