The three day celebration of Sankranti starts with Bhogi in Andhra Pradesh. Bhogi this year is celebrated on Tuesday, 14th January, 2020.
A camp fire sort of fire is lit in the early morning hours of Bhogi using old furniture and items. Normally all the family members and relatives enjoy the warmth of the fire during the cold season on Bhogi. Rangolis are drawn in front of the house . A competition in drawing of the Rangolis is also held during Bhogi. Gobbemmalu made from cow dung, which are worshipped as Goddess Lakshmi are placed in the middle of the Rangoli. Cock fights are also organized during Bhogi. The evening of Bhogi is for children, where bear fruits or Regi Pallu are showered on the children. A ritual which is done to cast away any evil on the children. Bhogi marks the start of kite flying
