Pitru Paksha Shradh / Mahalaya Paksha Shraddha is performed during the krishna Paksha in the hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada (Amavasant calenders)/ Aswin (Purnimant Calenders). Performing Pitru Paksha Shradh is neccesary because, after 10th / 12 th day ritual (Sapindi ceremony) after death, human being become treated as the god. for pitru devatalu, complete krisha paksha of Human period is equal to one night. By performing Thila Tarpana and Pinda pradhana during this period will please them for the year. This will release us from Pitru Runa i.e debt to the ancestors.
Every human being takes birth wirh Four debts (Runa), Those Four Debts are
To the God,
To the Rishis,
To the Acharya, and
To the ancestors (Pitru Devatalu).
Pitru Runa can be discharged in the following ways
by getting children,
by mata pita seva, and
by performing Shraddha.
