Vaikasi Visakham is the day Lord Skanda took form from the third eye of God Siva to destroy the asuras and alleviate the sufferings of the devas. This festival is celebrated in a grand manner by Tamil community around the world. Special pujas are offered to Lord Murugan and Pongal is offered as Naivedyam. Devotees carry milk pots to the Gods temples and perfrom abhishekam with them. People also take Kavadis as an offering for the Lord. Valli Kalyanam is also celebrated on this day.
