Pitru Paksha means 15 day ancestor period. Pitru Paksha is the auspicious 15 days for remembering those who have passed away. This is the very important and significant ritual in the Hindu culture.

Pirtu Paksha is auspicious period of 15 days which comes in the waning moon phase of the month of Ashwin (North India)/ Bhadrapada (South India). In 2012 Pitru Paksa falls between 30th September and  15th October. Pitru paksha strats with Pratipada shraddha on 30th September and ends with Sarvapitru Amavasya on 15th October.
