Parsuram Jayanti is believed to be the birth anniversary of Lord Parashurama. Parashuram is the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This festival falls on the same day with Akshaya Tritiya. Parshu is an axe-like weapon. He used this weapon to relieve the Earth’s burden by killing the sinful, destructive and irreligious monarchs.
Parasuram Jayanti is observed on Shukla Paksha tritiya of the Baishakha / Vaishakha month. In this year, Parashurama Jayanthi falls on Sunday, 8th May 2016. This festival is celebrated in grand manner in western and southern parts of India. Fasting, procession and satsang are the main rituals of this festival.
