Jyeshta masam is one of the highly auspicious month dedicated to the Lord Brahma, Creater of the Universe. Ganga Dussehra, Nirjala Ekadashi and Vat Purnima Vrat are the major festivals during this month. Udaka Kumbh Daan (donating water), Pada Raksha (chappal) Daan, Chatri (Umbrella) Daan and til Daan are prescribed during this month.
Jyeshta Masam dates are different for purnimant and amavasyant calenders. In purnimant calenders, Jyeshtha masam starts on 30th May 2018 and ends on 29th June 2017. In amavasyant calenders, Jyeshtha masam falls between 14th June 2018 and 13th July 2018.
Dash papa hara vratam is obseved by a few devotees during the Jyesta masam. Jyeshta maasam marks the beginning of new season (Ruthu) known as Greeshma Ruthu. This month is mentioned in Sri suktam.
This year we have two Jyesta months known as Adhika Jyesta masam and Nija Jyesta masam (regular). Adhika Jyesta masam falls between 16th may 2018 and 14th June 2018 in amavasyant Calenders, 1st may and 30th may in Purnimat calenders.
