Jyeshta Masam is the third month among the Hindu lunar months. This month is dedicated to Lord Brahma. Full moon day of this month is known as Jyeshta Purnima. This day is also knwon as Manvaadi, Maha Jyesti. Hindu lunar months are named according to the star, which is nearer to the moon during the full moon day of that month. Jyesta is the 17th star (Nakshatra) among the 27 stars.
There are two types of lunar months which are used in India. The one type of lunar month (Amavasyant) ends on new moon day and the other type of lunar month (Purnimant) ends on full moon day. This year, Purnimant Jyeshta Masam Starts on 22nd may 2016 and ends on 21st June 2016, Amavasyant Jyeshta masam starts on 5th June 2016 and ends on 5th July 2016.
Worshiping Lord Ganesha considered auspicious during Jyesta masam. Udaka Kumbh Daan (donating water), Pada Raksha (chappal) Daan, Chatri (Umbrella) Daan and til Daan are suggeseted during this month.
