Sita Navami fast is observed on the ninth day of shukla paksha in the Vaishaka month. Mata sita is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. She is also called as janaki and was the adopted daughter of Maharaj Janak. Goddess Sita was married to God Sri Rama, who was also born on same tithi in the month of chaitra. On Hindu calendar Sri Ramnavami arrives one month before of sita Navami. This year, Sita navami is on Saturday, 2nd May 2020.
Fast is observed on this day in respect of Godess Sita. King Janak, Lord Sri Ram and Mata Sunayana also worshiped on this day. Goddess Sita is known for her patience, and devotion towards her consort Lord Sri Ram.
