Hariyali Amavasya is an agricultural festival celebrated to welcome the “monsoon”. People worship lord shiva for properity and good good agricultural season. Lord Sri Krishna is also worshiped on this day. Lord krishna temples around mathura and Vrindavan make special arrngements on this day.
Hariyali means greenary and Amavasya is a new moon day. According to north Indian calenders, It is observed on the Amavasya day of the Sawan (Shravan) month. Though it is the same day, it falls in Aashadam month in south Indian calenders. Huge melas are held during this festival in various parts of north India. Especially Udaypur mela attracts thousand of tourists across India.
Hariyali Amavasya is also spelled as Haryali Amavas, Hariyali Amas and Hariyali Amavasai. This day is celebrated as Bheemana Amavasya in Karnataka, Gatari Amavasya in Maharashtra and Chukkala Amavasya in Andhra Pradesh.
