Gita Jayanti
The Bhagavad Gita is considered by many Hindus to be the most important and Sacred of all the scriptures in Hinduism. Gita jayanti is the birthday of this Sacred text. Gita Jayanti observed on the Shukla Paksha Ekandasi day in the hindu lunar month of Margashira. According to epic Mahabharata on Gita Jayanti day Sanjaya narrated the conversation between Sri Krishna and Arjuna, to King Dhrutarashtra.
Significance of Bagavad Gita
Bhagavad Gita was revealed to Arjuna by Sri Krishna himself in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, a little over 5000 years ago. It consists of 18 chapters and 711 verses.
The Gita is a source of power and wisdom. Bhagavad Gita is considered as the Bible of Hinduism. The message in geeta is broad, sublime and universal. It explains about the existence of the soul in the body, spiritual and material world, duties of man and much more. It teaches us about the four fold yogas of karma (action), bhakti (devotion), gnan (Knowledge) and prema (love).
Birth of the Bagavad Gita
When War of Kurukshetra is about to start Arjuna observed both the armies and seeing so many friends and family members on both sides. Arjuna’s heart begin to melt. Then Arjuna decided not to fight the battle. He felt that even if he ended up victorious in the fight also all his friends and family members would be killed in the battle.Lord Krishna convinced him to fight by saying about the truth of life and the philosophy of Karma and Dharma. All this conversation is known as ‘Bhagavad Gita’ or ‘Song of God’.
Gita Jayanti is also celebrated as Mokshada Ekadashi, Mukkoti Ekadasi and Vaikunta Ekadasi.
