Gangaur (गणगौर) is a festival celebrated in North India. Gangaur is a combination of two sanskrit words Gan and gaur. Gan represents God Shiva and Gaur represents Godess Parvati. Girls perform this vrat for Good husband, while married women perform this for their family welfare.
This festival is celebrated on Shukla paksha tritiya of the first Hindu lunar month (Chaitra). Idols of Gangaur, Iswarji, Kanu, Rova and Malan are worshiped on this day. This year, Gangaur / Gauri Puja is on Thursday, 30th March 2017.
