Ekadashi Shraddha | Gyaras Shraddha

Eleventh Day of Pitrupaksha, Eleventh Day of Mahalaya Paksha, Eleventh Day of Shraddha, Ekadashi Shraddha, Gyaras Shraddha

Ekadashi Shraddha falls on the Ekadashi thithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month or the eleventh day of the waning phase of the moon in the month of Bhadrapada as per the lunar calendar. According to North Indian Purnimant Calenders, Ekadashi Shraddha falls in the month of Ashwin.

Ekadashi Shraddha or Gyaras Shraddha is the eleventh day of the fifteen day long Mahalaya Paksha of the Bhadrapada Month. The whole fifteen days of mahalya paksha are considered auspicious for offering Tarpans to the deceased and thereby pleasing them.

People who have died on Ekadashi Thithi as per the lunar calendar are offered Tarpan on Dwitiya Shraddha or Dooja Shraddha.  The paksha in which they have died is not considered and Shraddha is performed based on thithi only. Pinda Daan is also done and in the process of  Pinda Daan, Pindas are either immersed in the river or fed to a cow.

Care should be taken that the process of Shraddha should conclude in such a manner that lunch should happen at Aparhana Time. Ancestors would be pleased and bless us with wealth and prosperity after we perform the Shraddha and satisfy them by offering Tarpans.
