Ahoi Ashtami is a Hindu festival dedicated to Ahoi mata (Ahoi Bhagwati). On this day mothers observe fast for the prosperity of their sons. This fast is observed from the Sunrise. They go to the emples before sunrise and pray Ahoi Mata for the sake of their sons. The fast is broken after sighting stars in the sky.
Ahoi Ashtami is observed on the Krishna Paksha Ashtami in the Hindu month of Kartik. Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated eight days before Diwali and four days after Karwa Chauth. This year Ahoi Ashtami falls on Wednesday, 7th November, 2012.
